This is not what you would call a great motorcycle, not even a good motorcycle, but it is a motorcycle. It is definitely better than not having a motorcycle. This beauty was found at a local garage sale with a price tag of $150. Based on what it was and the condition it was in…that was a steep price. All I had to do was look at it and look at the kid trying to sell it and he said “how about $100?” The bike may not even have been worth $100, but I wanted it. It started on the first kick (because who knows where the battery and mount for the battery went). The seat had seen better days, but it wasn’t soggy or moldy. That little cable sticking up out of the handle bars you ask? Oh, that’s nothing, just the throttle cable that isn’t connected to the throttle grip in any way at all. The cable was connected to the carburetor and did rev the engine when it was pulled upon, what more could I ask for? Front brake? Who needs it? Tires that aren’t dry rotted? Over rated. Luckily the garage sale wasn’t far from my home as I drove the bike to my garage. Outside of the one handed grip on the handlebars, two flat tires, and looking like I just pulled the thing out of a dumpster, I had a wonderful ride home.
I did not buy this bike to be a wonderful cruiser to go out and impress the ladies, I bought it to fill my need to tinker. It also gave me a feeling of nostalgia thinking back to my childhood Suzuki JR80. I have no dreams of grandeur that this bike will one day be an amazing marvel of engineering and speed, but I do see it getting a bigger engine and probably a front brake.
